Established in the ‘90s and based in glorious Richmond (just 16 minutes from Central London) our client is a privately funded organisation who is a recognised online leader within the consumer review sector. Having just redeveloped their complete site architecture they are just about to enter a phase of rapid feature development and are now seeking a Head of Development to help them achieve a best in class proposition that delights their users.
You are most likely a Lead Developer or Development Manager looking for a stepping stone to a CTO role. As the most senior technical position within this expanding business (you will have a seat on the senior management team), you will report into a Board Director, and will be involved with the full gambit of technical, managerial and strategic decisions that will equally test, stretch and develop your skills.
In more detail, expect to... Manage UK and Offshore teams; Provide technical direction and guidance; Hire and manage both full time and contract staff; Work closely with HR; Implement formal processes to support product development; Manage both internal and third party suppliers; Review when to build vs. buy and manage subsequent processes; Ensure the efficient running of systems and infrastructure.
To qualify... You should be a highly motivated Lead Developer / Development Manager / Software Architect or similar with experience that covers the following:
• High traffic consumer websites.
• Large scale item databases, product feeds and CMS solutions.
• Successfully managing a small technical team.
• Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Working with offshore teams
Technically, the following should come naturally to you... PHP and ideally Java to expert level; OO / Design Patterns; MySQL; Apache; Tomcat; Linux; Symfony or Zend Framework; Doctrine; Maven; Spring; JUnit System Administration.
